Jhoulys Chacin will take the mound in a televised game today against the Cincinnati Reds, a team reeling from yesterdays report that Ryan Madson will require Tommy Johns. Madson, who signed a one-year $8.5 Million with the Reds, was informed yesterday that his ulnar collateral ligament “was torn off the bone”. Because Madson signed a one year deal it wasn’t eligible for insurance, meaning the Reds will have to eat it. Not sure if we will see Marshall in the closers role today for the Reds or if Chapman will come out of the bullpen, both ideas thrown around after the Madson news, but we do know we will see the following line-up from the Rockies at 2:00 on Root:

Watching this one on delay right now. The best possible news: Casey Blake with a HR (his second in the last few games, the first one coming in a AAA game), and Helton with 2 HRs. The old men are rounding into form just in time! (Chris Nelson is probably not so thrilled …)

How else to explain four wipeouts in the ALDS since 2003, two in three games and two in four, generally following seasons where both teams won fairly similar numbers of regular-season games? Many of the postseason games were close, but the Twins were beaten from the start, according to Hunter. And another ex-Twins star, Michael Cuddyer, now with the Rockies, agreed. … Cuddyer enthusiastically agreed with Hunter’s general claim that the Twins were psyched out. “It was never about talent in those series,” Cuddyer said. “We played with them all (14) of those games. I think that’s pretty accurate” what Hunter said.”

There’s a lot to be said about mystique of the Red Sox and Yankees. How many guys have left those teams and won championships? Not many. So I don’t hold it against players to much. Everyone loses to those guys.
