I’ve been meaning to look up some of the Ex Rox, see how they are doing, Ian Stewart, Chris Ianetta, etc. and post them here.    But this one I could not pass up doing right away.  I clicked on the Dodge – Milwaukee game to see the score.  And I see that Jamey Wright is pitching.  Yes, Jamey Wright.  That Jamey Wright.

For you newer fans, Jamey was drafted by the Rox in 1993, first round if I recall correctly.  Made his MLB debut with the Rox in 1996.  And he’s still pitching.  Never been a star, some years in the minors, but he’s still going at it.  Kudos to him and his perseverance.

His record is 85-121.

Wow, eh?

I have the game on. He struck out the 1st 5 hitters he faced. He walked the 6th but that was more of who he wanted to face so he threw garbbage.

I’ve seen Ian a few games. I think quite possible the will turn ok for both the Rockies and the Cubs. I miss Stewart at 3rd.

Got home last night in time to see Smith and Iannetta. Weird seeing them in green/yellow and red.

Yeah, some of my Cubs fan friends were as anxious to get rid of Colvin as we were to be rid of Stewart. Hopefully both continue to play well for their new teams.

Oh well, they just cut away. I was hoping they would leave the post game on long enough because they were going to have the Brewers/Rockies preview coming up.

    The Dodgers won the game

A little bit off topic. He’s now an ex-Rox; Alberto Campos released by Rox. He was a promising and upcoming pitcher and he never showed up for spring training and was still in Venezuela when the Rox decided to cut ties.

More ex Rockies – flipped over to see Matt Lindstrom come in in the 7th to relieve Jason Hammel. The big difference is Hammel is winning. While talking about Hammel the White Sox announcer proclaims that any pitcher that can go .500 in Coors Field is pitching his … off.

    Hammel wins.

Hammel had a good game, struck out 10 in 6 innings. He is now 2-0 with one no decision.

Even with a 2-for-4 game today, Stewart is only hitting .233 for a Cubs team that’s 3-10. Maybe one day he’ll fulfill his initial potential, but that wasn’t going to happen in Denver.

Yeah because of who his manager was. He’d be benched for going 0-1

and he had 2 great plays made on him yesterday. One very similar to the Gonzalez attempt that was successful and the other in the ivy. Regardless of his avg. he is making much better contact and hitting the ball.

It is still early but it looks like the Orioles may have gotten the better end of that trade. Guthrie will still be alright, but not that much (Lindstrom is a lot in my book) better than Hammel in the long run. And yes I said it was a little lopsided at the time of the trade too.

The main reason I liked Guthrie for Hammel: I expected them to be pretty similar performance wise, but thought Guthrie was likely to throw about 50 more innings. That means 50 fewer innings for a Moscoso type. But so far Hammel’s been the man …

… Jamey Wright has left the Rockies twice with everyone expecting that he was pretty much done. I liked the guy (one of the better interviews we’ve had around here). What’s weird about him is I always expected he’d have at least one big career year — a kind of 17-9 season or something like that that he could convert into a big payday. It never came, and he’s just motored along as a 5th starter/middle reliever guy. But I guess there’s worse fates in life than a 15 year major league career.

I mentioned this once before, but I believe Hammel seemed to pitch much better late last season after he became a dad. Sometimes that life-changing event can have a profound impact on players as they suddenly recognize their responsibilities. I’d have liked to see Jason in this year’s rotation. That does not mean I dislike the trade, only time will tell who got the better deal on this one. We sure don’t have a large enough data set to be making that call just yet.

and then there is Joel Peralta. He blew the hold, blew the save, blew the game. His era is up around 13.50 now.
