Odd thoughts to share!

First I would like to thank the Rockies starting pitchers for pitching great over the last several games. Not ace like performances for sure (well maybe Moyer is an exception) but solid starts that allowed the team to pick up some games and more importantly some confidence.

Two, Scutaro has been taking some heat on this site, and just like Pooter with EY2, I am going to defend Scutaro for his performance so far. Sure he has made a couple errors, but so has that Gold Glover to his right. The hitting statistic is the one that is way over rated here, because although he is just above the Mendoza line he is taking terrific lead off at bats and still has a decent OBP for being in a slump. Bottom line Scutaro is going to great at second base in 2012!

Finally Edwar Cabrera pitched for the Tulsa Drillers last night and did not pitch a no hitter or even pick up the win – however his AA statistics so far are really good with one remarkable (maybe even unbelievable) exception:

Games: 4
Record: 2-1
ERA: 2.08
Innings: 26
Hits: 14
Runs: 6
Earned Runs: 6
Strikeouts: 22
Walks: 3
WHIP: .065
“this all looks great so far, but..”
Home Runs: 6
“Yup, all six of his runs have been gopher balls – ooch!!!”
HR/Hits%: 42.9%
Almost half the hits are over the wall.

Great starting pitcher prospect (Nicasio like AA numbers) if he can make some adjustments to correct that one minor(?) flaw.

I second everything you said about Scutaro.
I think all that clubhouse stuff is a bit over rated, but in this case a veteran who adds some fire to the team is invaluable.

And I guess if you are going to give up six home runs, they should ideally all be solo shots!

I do like Scutaro and the patients he brings to the dish, the leadership and experience he brings to the club AND I do like him as the starter. I just simply wish EY Jr. was given a chance here and there to fill in for Scutaro at second base. If he performs well during his spot starts like Colvin has in center field then he could get more chances to start at the position in the future. You would then always have your leadoff hitter playing second base and it wouldn’t be such a shock to the system when Scutaro has a day off. Both Scutaro and EY Jr. would bring different dimensions to the leadoff spot. Scutaro like mentioned above brings patients while EY Jr. brings aggression. Just like inserting a soft tosser in Moyer in between two flame throwers in the rotation, it would keep the other team off balanced.

But I will say that I do like what EY Jr. is doing for the club right now and I love how everything sets up for the Rockies. And that is exactly what I said all offseason, imagine having EY available to pinch run for Giambi in late innings. Giambi and EY Jr. make a very dynamic duo! I think it is the best late inning threat in the league.

    EYJ lovefest continued:::
I like his stance at the plate this season as compared to last year. Last year he had a stiff front leg that allowed him to hit everything on the ground, however, it eliminated any gap or homerun potential. Now he has a balanced stance which is allowing more pop in his bat but he still seems to know his role as a ground ball hitter.

I will say, it is nice to share my thoughts on EYJ and not get complete hatred in return, just thoughtfull opinions in return. Another reason why I love this site.

We all love ya, Pooter. You’re just part of the RWO Lovefest. LOL

If you want to see the exact opposite of this site, go to pennlive.com/pennstatefootball, then click on the fan forum. What a bunch of idiots. That site used to be informative, now it’s just a bunch of trash talk with no substance. Too bad I have just as much addiction to the Nittany Lions as I do the Rox, or I wouldn’t know the site existed.

Gotta love that strikeout to walk ratio.

Anyone know what his repertoire consists of? As all of you RWO posters are serious baseball fans, you know that pure heat can get a prospect to AAA, but without good off-speed stuff he won’t make it in the Show.

According to the scouting reports Edwar Cabrera has an outstanding changeup along with an above average (but not great) fastball. He led all of minor league baseball in 2011 in strikeouts while pitching at A (Asheville) and High A (Modesto). However Cabrera does not come with usual hype that pitchers like Friedrich and Matzek have seen.

They did pick up Kouzmanoff last year and Blake in the offseason. This doesn’t seem that different. So I wouldn’t put it past them.

    He’s not any good anymore.

Inge was awful last year, and just ordinary lousy the 4 years prior to that. He’s about to turn 35. He hasn’t actually had a good season since 2006.

So I guess what I’m saying is: yeah, he’s our best option right now for 3B.
