It’s never too early in the season to make up some ground on your NL West leader, and the Rockies have just the chance tonight as they begin a 3 game series against the Dodgers. The Dodgers, who are 16-6 so far this season, are coming off a three game sweep of the Nationals and have the best record in the MLB.
Herrera is in the line-up today, playing third and batting second, Dex has been dropped back down to eighth. Colvin is also in the line-up.
Scutaro
Herrera
Gonzalez
Tulowitzki
Helton
Hernanez
Colvin
Fowler
Nicasio

If the Rox will stop swinging at chase pitches and be more patient they will be successful. See what the Mets did…. (several 0-2 counts but patience got them back into the count and then swung at balls over the plate).
I’m getting so worked up for tomorrow’s game with Ted Lilly on the mound. All he does is throw big sliders over the plate and we didn’t do a thing the last time we saw him. Show me that Lilly is just an average pitcher with just two pitches (sliders and straightballs). Good move JT to rest Cuddyer tonight so he can be a weapon against Lilly & Kershaw in the next two games.
Nicasio tonight is our best chance to win even just one game of this series. If Chacin continues throwing 100 pitches in five innings tomorrow and giving up some runs, it’s time to switch Chacin and Chatwood’s spot on the MLB and AAA rosters. Like Ubaldo, he had only one 3-month hot streak to show on his resume so far.
RMH is usually more negative than I am but I agree. If we don’t win tonight we might get swept.
This man in blue is an a hole when he gives Harang borderline calls but for Nicasio. Sorry Ed the ump got to get this off my chest.
but not for Nicasio.
Wow does Laz Diaz read this blog between innings? Now Nicasio is starting to get calls his way.
It strongly appears the former Los Angeles Dodgers’ ownership group led by Peter O’Malley is likely to purchase the San Diego Padres, ending a number of years of poor and often regularly disjointed and adrift Padres ownership. One would think the O’Malley ownership group would change the direction of the Padres in some profound ways, investing and spending plenty of money on scouting and the minor leagues so as to turn the Padres into serious contenders in the next few years, with some critical and possibly surprising free agent acquisitions as well to further ensure a better product on the field. This does not bode well for the Rockies. A Colorado ownership group which shows little interest in staying on the same page with the other three clubs in the NL West in player investment and operational expenses could stagger into a permanent also-ran status unless the Monforts change their philosophy. If the O’Malley group can turn the Padres into the same kind of club they had with the Dodgers for the decades prior to when the Dodgers were sold to the Murdoch group in the mid to late 90s, Colorado may struggle to even be competitive in the NL West. Lets hope the Monforts respond to this new competitive challenge and take the necessary steps that will let Rockies’ fans continue to have at least some hope of having a chance at postseason play.
Let’s see what happens in the near future before we start delegating the Rockies to the bottom of the division standings.
Looks like you are trying to “stir up” controvesy when there is nothing there.
What concerns me more than really anything you mention, is that most of the other teams in our division have signed TV contracts after a recent surge in value. The Rox are tied up with Root/FSN for what might be a bargain basement price, and I think it lasts until 2020 or so. I’ve been unable to find anything concrete on their current deal, so I’m sorta talking out of place, but the fact that I can’t find anything is probably not a good sign of it being a blockbuster deal like other teams have.
I do find it curious that random people like yourself step out with a doom and gloom posting. Interesting approach to introducing oneself.
ahhh the Padres were a serious contender and you need not look that far back. They “owned” the NL West until their very last game of that season.
Hey Ed, come chat with us above!
I hope Esmil Rogers will take off as a RP. That was an MVP moment ;he should be #1 on the top ten plays.
Rogers started the season great guns. hit a rough spot, but he has looked again his last two outings.
I agree with you, I like Rogers in the BP a whole lot better than as a starter.
kudos to MMJT for his handling of the bullpen during the 7th inning.
And HUGE kudos to the bullpen for what they did during the 7th inning.
agreed! That was the key to the win!
Hey, how about that bullpen! (Of course, Rogers walked the bases full, then Kemp and Ethier helped out by swinging at balls out of the zone from Rogers and Brothers, and then Escalona fell behind with the bases loaded too, but let’s not get picky here)
Well played game overall. Even Fowler heading home was the right call, just nicely played by the Dodgers (relay/block of plate). I would’ve stuck with Brothers instead of going to Escalona, but I can’t argue with success.
There’s a really annoying narrative I’m hearing about the Dodgers being the team to beat. I’m not buying it. I’m more afraid of the Giants and D’backs, although I will admit the Dodgers now look like they’ll be in the mix. Uh oh … Do we get Rockie-Killer Ted Lilly and Kershaw next?
I didn’t watch the game, so they won!
Then don’t watch the game tomorrow especially with Chacin pitching. Any superstition to help us out!
Way to sacrifice Prog for the good of the team RMH!!!
I think Lance Diaz was an equal opportunity ump. Got the balls strike calls wrong for both teams. But I’ll give him credit. He correctly got the calls at home right.
I know the Rockies somehow got out of the 7th without damage and kudos to the three pitchers who did the job. But I think that Jim Tracy deserves none of the credit. There was no way that Nicasio should have started the 7th inning. He barely got out of the 6th. I know Frazier said he was still throwing hard, but so what he had no stuff. And then Tracy not only starts him in the 7th, he leaves him in after the first batter gets on. Somehow Rogers, Brothers and Escalona get out of the jam. But don’t try it again Jim.
Now if they can somehow figure out a way to beat Lily or Kershaw that would be great but somehow once this team wins a game they seem to be satisfied. So does Hernandez sit Tuesday or Wednesday and what about Helton?
Start EY,Jonny, and Dex and bunt-bunt-bunt that big hook instead of swinging for the fences!Let EY run wild on that slow hook and balls in the dirt.Just a thought since nothing else has worked.
I agree! EYJ needs a start, his swing is getting a little rusty.
I’d be okay with starting EY. Nobody else can hit Lilly so why not? Slide CarGo to CF and play EY in left.
I think you need Cuddy, CarGo, and Scutero in there.
I might even start Giambi. Something tells me he might deposit Lilly’s crap in the seats.
that made me laugh MikeT…
Miketober, I’ll second that Giambi vs. Lilly idea. Soft tossers tend to kill this club, so if you’re going to be resting guys in anticipation of the day game after a night game, tonight’s the night to give some guys like Giambi a shot.
Rogers and Brothers are kind of tantalizing as setup guys. Both have that swing-and-miss power stuff, and Rogers is throwing harder than ever now as a reliever. Let’s see if they can keep this going. Escalona? I’m not impressed. As Apodaca said after the game, he got away with one that the Dodgers popped up for the 3rd out.
This would be my lineup for tonights game:
EYJ 2B
Fowler CF
Cargo LF
Tulo SS
Cuddyer RF
Giambi 1B
Rosario C
Herrera 3B
But I know it won’t happen…..
I like it Pooter, with a couple of tweaks. Scutero is a tough out, which we will need against Lilly. So I’d take Dex (and his big strike-out swing) out and play Scutero at 2B and EY in the OF.
Second, any time Giambi is in the line-up he should bat cleanup.
wow, Sunday line-up for a Tuesday – i like it…
I totally agree with you on Giambi batting cleanup!
