Troy Tulowitzki will be in the lineup today against the Dodgers after missing a game due to a strained right groin.  Tulo wanted to start the 3rd game against the Padres, but wisely Tracy and didn’t play him on the advice of Kieth Dugger, the teams head athletic trainer.

This current road trip, which will conclude with three games against the Giants, is the longest of the season so far and will be the second longest trip this season.

Moyer will be on the mound for the team leading seventh start of the season.  It will be his 14th start against the Dodgers.  He is 3-6 with a 5.50 ERA against the boys in blue.  He will be up against another lefty in Chris Capuano.  Capuano has not allowed a run in each of his last two starts (13.2 ip).  He is 4-5 with a 3.68 ERA over 63.2 innings pitched against the Rockies.

This will be the second 3-game series between the Rockies and Dodgers this season.  The first meeting of the season was a 3-game affair that saw CarGo hitting two home runs and a Giambi three-run walk-off homer to end the game and take the series.

Carlos Gonzalez is a career .383 (57-for-149) hitter with 11 home runs and 38 RBI against Los Angeles. Todd Helton has more home runs (45) against Los Angeles than any other team, while Troy Tulowitzki’s 14 HR vs. LAD are his 2nd-most against any team (15 HR vs. ARI).

Carlos Gonzalez has continued his productive run at the plate, and went 2-for-5 with a double and a run in Wednesday’s victory. Gonzalez is now batting .373 (22-for-59) with 2 doubles, 7 home runs, 21 RBI and 16 runs scored over his last 15 games, since 4/24. Gonzalez leads the National League in hits (22), RBI (21) and runs (16) since 4/24, while his 7 home runs are tied with Ryan Braun and Jay Bruce for the most in the NL.

Surprising move just now—Pomeranz sent down to Sky Sox to get more work, according to Renck. Josh Outman has been activated.

Understand bringing Outman up. I think he has a chance to be good out of the pen, and was the most interesting piece of the Seth Smith trade to me. I also like leaving Friedrich AND White up.

But…….not so sure about sending Pomeranz down. Too much tinkering. My biggest Jim Tracy/Rox pet peeve. Make a decision, stick with it. Give the player a chance to work trough the “downs.”

      Here is the worst part:
Tracy said when Pomeranz returns, he will have a more over-the-top delivery. At times this year and last year (when he made four starts at the end of the season), Pomeranz was unintentionally cutting his fastball at times. The Rockies believe a higher arm swing will give him more power.
I don’t have much confidence in the Rox messing with pitchers mechanics. They messed up some one so bad he went back to his high school coach for a couple weeks last season. Perhaps someone can help me with the name.

Trip, I think we’ve got another unexplained loss of velocity situation here. They’ll work on him to see if there’s some kind of mechanical fix, but I doubt that’ll work. “Dead arm phase,” or is it injury? Nobody would’ve drafted him 5th overall with an 88 mph fastball …

Agreed Ag. I didn’t see a JT interview but the national guys said just what you mention. His velocity is a question.

It seems that all our young “stud” pitchers lose velocity after 1-2 seasons at Coors.Maybe the humidor should be reexamined to see if it adds weight to the ball.Even nanograms would add up over 100 pitches x 15 home starts. Also, there is the question,as mentioned by Moyer,of recovery time/wear and tear from pitching at altitude.Maybe a six man rotation isn’t such a bad idea.Certainly worth a try,and solves the DLR decision looming in a month or less.
