Tyler Colvin is back in the starting lineup for the third straight game, showing Tracy’s commitment to giving him a shot to make his mark. He will be back in center field and hitting second.
One day after Tulo was dropped to fifth in the batting order, he has been moved back to cleanup for the first of two games against the Giants.
The team is hoping for a turnaround from their losing road ways, enters tonight’s game having lost six of their last seven road games (since 4/25 at PIT game two) and eight of their last nine games overall (since 4/6 vs. ATL).
Rockies left-handed pitcher Christian Friedrich will make his second career Major League start tonight. Friedrich earned the win in his Major League debut on 4/9 at SD (6.0 ip, 5 h, 2 r-1 er, 1 bb, 7 so).

I find it very annoying when the ROOT crew talks about the shift that is on for Giambi, but never show it. They have time to show the seagulls. And close ups of Giambi, but never bother to show the infield shift.
Thanks for nothing, Dex. He hit a line drive into the dugout that hit Tulo in the leg, eventually necessitating Tulo’s removal from the game. Then Fowler struck out in the ninth with one out and runners on second and third in a 3-2 game and, because Tulo was out of the lineup, Nelson had to bat in his place and grounded out weakly to end the game after Cargo was intentionally walk to load the bases. Of course, given Tulo’s struggles with RISP the result may have been no different had he batted there with the game on the line.
Friedrich was terrific again, the offense sputtered again and the Rox lost again…same old, same old.
All Dex had to do was put it in play SOMEWHERE.Even if White gets thrown out at home at least we’ve forced them to make the play.JT is saying as much right now on post game.We may have the first piece of rotation reset.Who knows,by July 4th we might have a serviceable or slightly above average rotation.Just don’t know if anyone will care by then.Wow,JT just went out of his way to throw Dex under the bus for not putting ball in play.Of course he failed to mention Dex was in because he[Tracy] chose to ph for Colvin in the eighth!
Huh? Didn’t the Rox have first and second with one out in the 8th (after Dex walked) and Helton and Cuddy failed to come through? Why throw Dex under the bus for the 9th?
Because he double whammied. First, be didn’t get the ball in play with a runner on third and one out that would have tied the game. And then, because he hurt Tulo
, we had someone even worse up for the last out – Chris Nelson.
The last time I checked, a team gets 27 outs, and Dex made 1 of them. And his OBP was .500. And I think it’s unfair to crucify him for a freak foul ball that happened to hit Tulo.
If you have to blame 1 guy for this loss, why not Cuddyer? He made the 3rd out with the bases loaded in the 3rd inning and again with 2 RISP in the 8th.
And suppose Dex did get the ball in play in the 9th. It may have been that run on contact play anyway with the same result.
Plenty of blame to go around on the offensive end. Miketober, you’re right … the Rockies big hitters also failed to deliver Fowler after the leadoff walk.
Dex is the official whipping boy now. Did you hear Ringolsby get in a little dig too? Something like, “And then Dexter Fowler swung late on a fastball that went foul into the Rockies dugout and hit Tulo in the leg.” I love the “swung late” there. I was also waiting for Drew to scold Tulo for not having his eyes on the game and glove in hand (remember, that’s what he did when that senior citizen lady got clunked in the head by a foul last week).
The big thing yesterday was squandering the opportunities in the early innings when Vogelsong wsa struggling with his control. He found it, and by then it was too late. But Friedrich was mighty impressive. So Gary makes a good point. If Pom makes it back and DLR works out the kinks, the transformation of the starting rotation is at least something to look forward to this year.
Dex will be demoted to AAA and the Rockies will go on a 50-game winning streak. Gotta get them bad apples out of the clubhouse.
Did anyone else notice that the Giants lineup is made up of a bunch of AAAA players? Friedrich still pitched great, however that SF lineup was pathetic.
Yes! When I saw the Giants line-up it reminded me of Jim Tracy Sunday line-up. Who are these guys? But I didn’t matter because their big boys delivered and ours didn’t.
One last random thought, is it just me or would other teams be slightly more aggressive in trying to tie up the game on the road in that situation? I know the four letter “B” word (bunt) should only be used with pitchers according to J Tracy.
However why not let Dex drag a “bunt” there and easily score the tying run? Safety squeeze or suicide squeeze for Gods sake, please JT take a chance to try and win a game. Just maybe that’s why the Rockies are pushing for the lead in homers while working hard to stay out of last place?
I completely agree O.R. and believe that Tracy’s biggest flaw, in my opinion, is his desire to win big and in 9 innings. The lack of small ball really frustrates me because I’ve seen so many situations where a bunt would work better than a big swing and tying it up in the 9th beats trying to win it on one swing.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the “go big” mentality isn’t part of the reason Tulo doesn’t approach hit at bats better…don’t know, but maybe…
I thought this too except that White was the runner on 3rd. At least Giambi would have been threatening a home plate collision and Posey would vacated the premisis like the monty python knights…”run awaaaaaaaaaay”.
Too bad EYJ was not available. He certainly would have tried to score on the error in the ninth and obviously would have been in that situation as a pinch-runner rather than a young pitcher (White).
