For some reason I thought the game started at 6:00. Just posted the lineup. Will have chat going soon.
Only 5 walks allowed. On this team that’s called something to build upon.
Luckily I was working all day so just listened to the game and didn’t have to watch. Rockies offense improved dramatically from yesterday 5 hits instead of 2 and 3 runs instead of 0. Another couple of starts under Apodoca and Friedrich could be a broken pitcher. Ugh.
I don’t know if there were really 30,000 people at the game today but as long as the Rockies draw large crowds the Monferts won’t make changes. I’m always busy in the spring and rarely have time to get to games until mid-June, but by that time we’re going to be so far under I don’t know if I will go. If fans voted with their wallets and credit cards maybe the Montferts would get the message. Of course even when the Rockies stink, there is no better way to spend a summer evening than at Coors Field.
Tracy keeps saying you have to be patient. Cuddyer said everybody expects a quick fix but you can’t turn it around just like that. Why not? We turned it around from being competitive to being lousy just like that.
Tomorrow is one of those “ride your bike to the game” Sundays. Is it a Rockies cruel joke that they will have Guthrie be the starting pitcher?
I was planning on going to the game, but I think I’ll go watch some HS playoff baseball. Much more entertaining.
Ha! that is very funny…Ironic even…
Cisco, that’s hilarious. And I suppose Guthrie will ride his bike.
DO NOT LISTEN TO STOCK TIPS FROM THIS MAN, AND DO NOT INVITE HIM TO VEGAS WITH YOU:
Namely, Dan O’Dowd.
Major roster changes in the offseason:
Hernandez for Iannetta
Scutaro for Stewart (Scutaro filling in at 2B, where Nelson and Herrera would have been our in-house candidates, so essentially that’s what the change was)
Cuddyer for Smith
Guthrie for Hammel
Old Rockies so far this year: have added 2.1 wins above replacement (WAR)
New Rockies: 0.2 WAR
And that’s not including Lindstrom, who would’ve added another + 0.4, since his role/innings went to … Esmil Rogers (0 WAR … I’m shocked it’s not negative)
Now I don’t want to unfairly dump on O’Dowd since there’s plenty of fair dumping to be done. And I would’ve made the Scutaro deal (really a no-risk signing at a reasonable price since we didn’t give up anything of value), and I even thought the Guthrie move was a good one in the abstract. (I really didn’t like Cuddyer and Hernandez since Iannetta/Smith cost about $6 million bucks and Cuddyer/Hernandez costs us 14 million for the same performance … I don’t see why anyone would like that unless you think Tyler Chatwood is an 8 million dollar acquisition). But even O’Dowd’s harshest critic — and there are some way harsher than us — would have to admit that the guy is just on a colossal bad luck streak.
Agbayani, I’m not a fan of DOD either, but in order to fairly analyze these deals, you have to factor in that we also got Colvin, LeMahieu, Moscoso, and Outman. And maybe you have to put Putnam in there somewhere.
So, what do we do from here. If we aren’t going to be good this year, then we should at least take some steps to be good next year.
I think that Giambi should be traded. He’s hitting in the .290s, so he should have value to an AL team. But for us he’s too unidimensional, and we have other players to back up Todd at 1B.
It would be hard for me to imagine that Esmil Rogers still has some trade value, but if he does, we should trade him. We know how that will turn out: just like with Morales and Paulino, another team will turn him around, but it doesn’t appear that we can figure out how to turn him around. I think that at this point Putnam may be a better alternative to Rogers.
I like the idea that was posted of playing Cuddyer at 3B.
I’d be open to trading any other non-key player who might get us a good young player in return. As I think Agbayani suggested, Scutaro might still have trade value and get us a good young prospect in return. Can McBride catch? If so, maybe Hernandez has trade value. Rosario is the future, so let him play more, and maybe he’ll figure out how to hit sliders and have fewer passed balls.
I doubt that Nelson has any value, so he might have to be cut.
I’d figure out how to get Young more ABs, maybe at the expense of Fowler.
We can only hope that by the end of the minor league season that players like Arenado and Ruttledge are ready to step up.
