The Rockies placed starting pitcher Juan Nicasio on the 15 day disabled list Sunday, a day after he strained his left knee trying to corral a run-scoring single by Los Angeles third-baseman Elian Herrera.  A magnetic imagery scan (MRI) is scheduled this morning for Nicasio.  Presuming the desired negative result, the DL stay plus a couple of rehab starts at Colorado Springs could benefit the right-hander, who has allowed 12 runs and 22 hits in his last 12 2/3 innings pitched over three starts.

Jorge De La Rosa, meanwhile, is also scheduled for an MRI this morning.  The left-hander, recovering from elbow surgery, experienced biceps tightness in his most recent rehab start for the Sky Sox, and fluid developed in the elbow following the appearance.  This after bouts with forearm stiffness in two earlier starts at Tulsa, the prospects for help from the one-time staff ace any time soon are clearly in-vain.

Right-hander Guillermo Moscoso has been recalled from the Springs to take Nicasio’s roster spot.  The schedule, which includes two off-days in the coming weeks, may permit Colorado to go with a four-man rotation during that period, staving-off the frightening prospect of starts by Moscoso, author of two disasterous outings early last month.

I’d like to see the Rox go after Ryan Dempster from the Cubs if it wouldn’t cost too much. I believe he still lives in the Denver area during the off-season so he wouldn’t mind coming here. It seems that historically, DOD and Epstein of the Cubs have gone together on several trades over the years, so there may be some lines of communication between the two. I’m sure that the best GM in baseball (head and shoulders above the rest) can get anything done for the good of the team.

It’s been reported for the last few days the Cubs are shopping him. MLB TV talked about him going to the Yankees. I think it was back on Sat.

I saw that Jeff Francis asked for free agency and is now available.

    Could do a lot worse.

      As reported on coloradorockies.com:

“DENVER — The Rockies are pursuing left-hander Jeff Francis, their ace during their National League championship season of 2007.

“We are interested; I have no idea of the outcome of that interest,” general manager Dan O’Dowd said on Monday morning.

Francis, 31, was pitching for the Reds’ Triple-A affiliate in Louisville, and went 3-6 with a 3.72 ERA in 77 1/3 innings over 12 starts. Francis, who struck out 65 against 18 walks, had a June 1 opt-out clause in his Minor League contract, and after throwing a complete-game shutout on Sunday, he asked for his release, according to a Twitter dispatch by ESPN.com reporter Jerry Crasnick.”

He’s fully stretched out and he can’t be worse than Jamie Moyer. So I say let’s go after him and see how he does back at Coors Field while we keep the seats warm for Pom, DLR, Chatwood, and Nicasio.

If he’s ready to go it’s worth a shot.Rather see him than Moscoso, and he has been better than record indicates.ROX tried for Dempster 2 years ago,but Cubs outbid us by a bunch,so I think his contract is more Yankeecentric.DLR news screams Sept.call up-anything sooner would be a miricle now.
