Bleacher report suggests four players the Rox should trade for starting pitching: Wheeler, Story, Cuddyer, Brothers. I know a lot of us have complained about keeping players beyond their spoilage date, but what do you think about these four? In my book, Cuddyer is definitely untouchable.

Due to cost and availability, top tier pitching seems to be out of the picture, who would you trade for?

Brother’s value as a reliever and potential future closure is higher to the Rockies than it would be as a trade candidate, so I don’t see how the Rockies could possibly win with a trade there…unless he was included in a MAJOR MAJOR trade. But you don’t just throw him in to execute a marginal trade.
The idea of trading Trevor Story AND Tim Wheeler for a SP that will be a free agent at the end of the year? WTF is this guy smoking? That’s C-R-A-Z-Y.
The idea of a Cole Hamels or Zack Grienke in a Rox uniform is GREAT. But for 3 months? Why?
Talk about throwing away good players for nothing. Only makes sense if they sign extentions…
In general, I agree that OF has some depth that we could move both Wheeler and Cuddyer for the right pitching beyond 2012.
Have a gutsy idea: Now that it looks like Jordan Pacheco is here to stay at 3B, shall we trade Nolan Arenado as part of a package for top tier pitcher provided that the incoming pitcher has at least two years remaining on his contract. That way we are guaranteed to get value out of Arenado instead of watching him go Ian Stewart on us and lose all the value. Trevor Story and Josh Rutledge are no nos in my mind unless it brings in at least two years of top tier pitcher.
I say let’s sign Jeff Francis and put him in the rotation bumping out Guthrie. Throw in Guthrie along with Arenado.
I think thats a reasonable consideration. Long term, I have to think Tulo will be the 3B, Rutledge or Story take the SS, and Pacheco, with continued success at the plate, moves to 1st.
It really depends on what happens between now and mid season 2013. If we are contenders in 2013 I say do it for a 1.5 year “rental”.
However, if 2013 looks like a building year too, then I am on the fence.
Tulo will play shortstop throughout his contract that has about eight years remaining on it. I know many of you will point to the Ramirez/Reyes drama in Miami, but it will not happen with Tulo.
Why? Because he’s stubborn and arrogant? Aren’t they all? His injury problems will force him more than Hanley or ARod did.
Didn’t say I agreed with it, just said that was the reality!
I agree the jury’s still out on Pacheco. The Rox history of players seeming to succeed only to fall on their face goes beyond the normal Sophomore slump and has given our BIB general manager more than a few gray hairs. How in the hell did Stewart forget how to hit? And Atkins? What in the hell happened with him? Jason seems to have the right idea now, but I wonder if pressure to hit with power when playing the corners will screw him up. I think the Rox should trade for a solid first baseman to pair with Arenado and let Pacheco be the super utility guy. Hate to say it, but Todd looks to me as if he’s about to DL. That slide home on Monday shook him up and that dive for the grounder last night didn’t help his back any.
I saw that too,and he isn’t playing tonight even with day off tomorrow!
I would trade Fowler NOW!!
Egossage, is that you mascarading as Pooter?
Why because he is the best outfielder in baseball right now?
Thats probably a good idea, to be honest. His value might be as high as it could be. Do you ride this and hope it ends up being consistent or do sell while he is hot?
I he reverts back it just continues the “is he or isn’t he” game we’ve been playing for 2-3 years.
That’s nuts!!!!!!!!
Fowler isn’t going anywhere. Not now. He is a JT favorite and since he has responded in a very positive way since the “sunday go to meeting” I just don’t see it happening.
Cuddyer? Trade Cuddyer? Ok …
Hamels or Grienke? Grienke would cost too much and what makes anyone think he would come here? Hamels? I thought there was some talk about Hamels during the past off season?
Are y’all trying to make next year worse than this one?
Cuddyer & Dex both are 2 of the few bright spots in a (so far) DISMAL season, and you want to trade them?
Prog: I agree, Brothers doesn’t have much trade value right now after what he’s shown so far this year.
Prog: I think Dex has been more “is he” than “isn’t”, and his upside is too high to get rid of him just yet. Hell, even Tulo doesn’t get started until June.
RMH: Too soon to tell on Pacheco IMHO.
Does it strike anybody else that we have talent, but that it’s inconsistent?
Does it strike anybody else that our in-season trades are usually a bust?
Folks, that’s poor management, and nothing else.
Lansford actually seems to be earning his paycheck lately, but DO’D, JT & Apodaca all have to go to have any hope of being anything more than mediocre.
P.S. Bring on Francis. He can’t be any worse than what we’ve seen so far.
Are we? No. This is just discussion on a story over on the bleacher report that Doc posted about.
I feel bad for that Bleacher Report guy. He got obliterated. I tried to post some counterpoints without being a jerk.
Trade Fowler now before he becomes one those players that we hold on for too long and then can’t get anything for him. Let Cargo play CF
Realistically, the Rox should be looking at 2B for the future as well as any capable starters. They were in discussions during the offseason for Martin Prado of the Braves…The Braves wanted Fowler and Wheeler so they declined. I would revisit that trade and maybe offer up Pacheco and Wheeler. Also, why not open discussions with the Rays for Wade Davis as they are loaded with arms and he is now sitting in the bullpen. The Rays need some hitting badly so maybe we could work a deal there. Others I would consider, would be Hernandez and Scuturo as they should keep Rosario playing for the experience this year. If they are able to sign Francis, I would immediately start shopping Gutherie although his value is pretty low, although he has been pretty decent on the road prior to last night.
I believe we showed interest in Davis this past winter but nothing popped.
Why not move Pacheco to 2B?
Because our BIB GM has determined he isn’t agile enough for the position.
I do not believe that Mr. O’ Dowd determined that. He was probably influenced by others to make it happen. Use your favorite search engine and I’m sure you can find the story by Jack Etkin that covers his move from 2nd to catcher pretty well.
I agree! I would also like to see EYJ recieve a shot to play at second during Tulo’s injury but I guess that is out of the question.
You know I am with you Pooter on EY2, but it is just not going to happen with the current management regime. The same management group that has the Rockies best starting pitcher using up his 2012 limited innings in AAA – Pomeranz?
