JIM TRACY IS SET TO MANAGE HIS 500TH GAME FOR THE ROCKIES TUESDAY NIGHT; IT WILL BE THE 1634TH GAME HE MANAGES IN THE MAJORS.

ONLY 69 MEN, OUT OF THE 674 THAT HAVE MANAGED AT LEAST 1 GAME IN THE BIG LEAGUES, EVER, HAVE MANAGED MORE GAMES THAN JIM TRACY.

HIS CAREER MARK AS A MLB SKIPPER?

 816-817…YES, .500

(THAT INCLUDES A 254-245 MARK WITH COLORADO.)

HIS WIN TOTAL OF 816 RANKS 73RD ALL TIME IN MLB HISTORY.

THE ROX HAVE 24 WINS TO DATE IN 2012;

A MODEST 25 MORE W’S WILL MOVE TRACY PAST BILL TERRY (hof), FRED HUTCHINSON, AND CHARLES COMISKEY (hof) AND INTO THE TOP 70 OF WINNINGEST MANAGERS.

TRACY MAY REMEMBER HUTCHINSON AS THE MANAGER OF HIS HOMETOWN CINCINNATI REDS FROM 1959-1964.

OLD COMISKEY PARK IN CHICAGO WAS NAMED AFTER CHARLES COMISKEY, WHO WAS THE WHITE SOX FOUNDER AND ORIGINAL OWNER.

BILL TERRY IS IN THE HALL OF FAME BECAUSE HE HIT .341 IN 14 YEARS WITH THE NY GIANTS.

TERRY MANAGED THE NY GIANTS FOR A DECADE AND WON THE 1933 WORLD SERIES AS A MANAGER/PLAYER.

TRACY HAS 70 OR MORE CAREER WINS VS 4 OF THE 5 NL WEST TEAMS:

SDP (81), AZ (80), LAD (78), SFG (76), COL (60).

HIS TOP WINNING PERCENTAGE IS AGAINST A TEAM HE FORMERLY MANAGED; PITTSBURGH – 40-17 (71%)

TRACY IS 48-39 VS THE AMERICAN LEAGUE AFTER DROPPING 6 STRAIGHT THIS YEAR TO SEA /LAA IN INTERLEAGUE PLAY.

HE IS 4-2 ALL TIME VS OAKLAND.

ACCORDING TO THE ROCKIES MEDIA GUIDE TUESDAY NIGHT WILL MARK THE FIRST TIME HE MANAGES AGAINST THE A’S AS THE HOME TEAM.

OAKLAND A’S NUMBERS:

6 current Rockies and hitting instructor Carney Lansford appeared in a whopping 3,451 games for the A’s.

Divided by 162, that amounts to 21.3 total seasons (!).

The timeline looks like this:

1983-1992…

1995-2011

26 seasons…with a 2 year break (’93-’94)

LANSFORD: 1203 games (’83-’92)

GIAMBI: 1036 games (’95-’01/’09)

HERNANDEZ: 595 games (’99-’03)

SCUTARO: 476 games (’04-’07)

CARGO: 85 games (’08)

OUTMAN: 33 games (’08-’11)

MOSCOSO: 23 games (’11)

As always, thanks for the excellent stats Marc…i know many are down on him but he has had a pretty decent career when looked at overall…of course ask the Dodgers fans or the Pirates fans and they would probably feel about him as much as we do currently…good luck, as long as you aren’t the head of our team…

” A modest 25 more wins…”, well I heard that a shakeup is in store, so maybe he hits that mark with another team??? Either way a very tough 26 games in 27 days, hope they win 13 of em, probably more like 10 though.

Some interesting observations on the state of the Rox from Fox’s Ken Rosenthal:

ROCKIES: TIME TO SHAKE IT OUT?
Talk continues in scouting circles that the Rockies would benefit from a shakeup of their coaching staff.

Pitching coach Bob Apodaca is the most obvious target; the Rockies’ 6.17 rotation ERA is by far the worst in the NL. Hitter-friendly Coors Field surely is a contributing factor, but some wonder: Is the park the sole reason the Royals’ Felipe Paulino and Orioles’ Jason Hammel pitched better after leaving the Rockies and Jeremy Guthrie pitched worse after joining the team?

Offense is hardly a problem for the Rockies, but sources also suggest that a number of hitters are disenchanted with hitting coach Carney Lansford. The team, according to STATS LLC, also leads the majors with eight runners thrown out at home plate, which is at least a partial reflection on third-base coach Rich Dauer. The team’s outfield play also could stand improvement, scouts say; that area is the responsibility of Glenallen Hill.

Coaches too often are made scapegoats, and it’s possible that changing faces would accomplish little in Colorado. Then again, some in the industry believe that everyone in the organization, including GM Dan O’Dowd and manager Jim Tracy, is too secure.

Interesting observations, especially the last sentence-everyone in the organization is too secure. Why wouldn’t they be? The owner has given them lifetime contracts, so why should they worry?

You are right on. They need to replace every major coach (ok to keep Vinny, maybe BP etc). Give Tracy (since he has a lifetime contract) this year and 2013 with the new staff, then can him. Make the coaching moves the litmus test for DOD… if he is willing to do it, let him, if not, it gives him a dignified way out. If the new staff doesn’t cut it, then clean house and bring back some alumni to keep fans coming. This coaching staff is truly horrible for the Rockies. Maybe better elsewhere, I am sure they are wonderful people and good baseball men.

Something must be done. A month ago.

What’s JT’s managerial record with the Rox since Sept 1st of 2010? That would REALLY be the story!
