Just as well have the game NOT be televised. Let them Little Leaguers play out of the spotlight.
Hell, I wasn’t gonna watch today anyway. Glad I decided to go make some music with some pals last nite. Didn’t miss another meltdown. Then I get up this AM and the Post has no game story, just another silly little Trenck thing with Cuddyer moving to 2nd base. The Post is playing as pathetic as the home team. Jeez!!
Most folks have already posted the thoughts I’ve been having in last night’s post game comments. I’m a zombie, I kind of keep watching, but just don’t get excited because like clockwork I see the meltdown coming. I am not a negative guy…but man, that glass is looking much more half-empty than half-full.
What really bums me out is that like most of us I have a stressful life with family, work, etc, etc. The Rockies have always been my escape and relaxation…sitting down to watch a game and relax….not so much now. Glad I paid $120 for MLB.TV to watch my team.
I’m heading to Fort Collins next week and even before I realized they are out of town all of next week my wife couldn’t believe I told her I don’t really want to see a game. She told me this morning…so…can we watch the Giants now instead? (She grew up on the west coast and still follows her teams). I told her…sure. **shudders** problem is that I’ll still be watching the scores.
Bring the young guys up…at least it may be something new to watch.
As an ASU grad—from back in the Rick Monday-Reggie Jackson era— I identify with your avatar….although I liked the old ‘Sparky’ logo better.
I’m sure your comments on the Rockies reflect the general feeling of most of us.
And the upcoming road trip could get pretty ugly.
Alex…I hear you. I’m a little torn, but Sparky is still around. Its like someone said to me…I don’t care what logo we wear as long as we win!
I see no way in hell the upcoming road trip can be any uglier than the home stand just completed.
The Giants talking heads were hammering on the Rockies the other night. Caught me by surprise. They making comments about not being able to blame it on Ubaldo. He’s gone and the Rockies are worse. Who will they blame it on next … etc.
you know, one of my least favorite things about the Giants, a team i mostly can’t stand, is their stupid talking heads…they BUG and were the same ones crying foul on the humidor situation…what a bunch of babies…
having said that, i’m happy for Cain cause anyone, I don’t care who (ok, except for Timmy) deserves massive props for throwing a no-hitter…
rockies game is free on mlb tv, but i would not recommend watching it very lethargic game by the rockies, errors, 2 passed balls by rosario, a starter lasting 4 innings and giving up a run in each of them, dugout seems very quiet and bleak. not looking good for my rockies
I haven’t had much to say. It’s kind of unbelievable, and really depressing to see a good-hitting team get dragged down by this heading-for-historically-awful pitching. I do read the Post and the forums there, and chime in sometimes. I like several of the intelligent posters on there, but lately it is full of anger and sniping. (I know, Jaredean, you would tell me that’s par for the course; I respectfully disagree; it’s often good reading/discussion… If you skim over the non-regulars who scream constantly for a boycott. Yep, THAT’ll take care of everything!
) Anyway, thanks again to the ITR aka RWO crowd for the lack of ugliness.
I wouldn’t call it ugliness, but the frustrations were showing last night from our normally collected group. This is beyond frustrating and has just deteriorated into a feeling of not caring. I take that back. I do care, I just don’t have any expectations of anything good happening. No trip to Detroit for me this weekend, that’s for sure!
PAR FOR THE COURSE!!!
Just kidding…actually there are several there that do have good things to say, but from the posts i’ve read over the past few years there are just so many clueless trolls that it makes it difficult to weed through at times…sure, when we are doing this bad it makes sense that even the regulars would be screaming for someones head – but to go off during the 2nd week of the season about how much the team sucks, etc., that is what got me really upset…
I understand people having an intelligent discussion about how upset they are with the team, but don’t like it when people post stuff that is across the line constantly…
You are right though, there are several on there that aren’t like that…just wish they’d all come here and talk with us
Pretty hard not to scream or be “ugly” over this shitty franchise, and I do mean franchise, not just team.
From top down this is the worst I have ever been a fan of and I have been a fan of the Browns, Indians, Cavs, Nuggets, so I have seen some ugly teams but this takes the cake. Even the 2 players to be excited about on this team have GLARING GLARING GLARING weaknesses that teams are exploiting daily.
The ownership is completely clueless. The general manager has a case of the shitfinger. Everything and everyplayer he touches turns to crap. The coaches are completely useless. The drafts are wastes. The players get traded for nothing, when they aren’t flat out released or nontendered. Their better prospects get blocked by FA signings. Their trades never work out. They play games with their best minor leaguers. They refuse to place accountability at the right levels. They run idiotic promotions like Year of the Fan. They employ bad broadcasters. Run off the ones we like. They screw fans over during the WS ticket release.
This franchise freaking stinks right now.
I meant ugly towards one another in the forum. And screaming max-full of stupid and clueless “solutions.” You can be outraged and disgusted at the team and the franchise, but when it spills into fan combat, well….
Prog, hard to argue with any of the points you raise. I’d add Monfort’s utterly foolish defense of his GM as “the best in baseball, hands down…but I don’t know them all.”
That ridiculous statement, more than anything else that’s gone on in this wretched season to date, told us everything we need to know about the mindset of this franchise’s ownership. I cannot imagine some sort of change would not be forthcoming soon, but I’ve been saying that for awhile now.
In the wake of yet another crushing loss this afternoon, I’d have to say if a team of no-names and a .220 team batting average can come into Coors Field and easily sweep the Rockies, I don’t believe there has ever been less reason to be hopeful about the local nine.
Given Tulo’s latest injury setback, the historically bad starting pitching and the seeming intransigeance of management to hold anyone in authority accountable, can this situation get even worse?
You bring up a good point Prog. Seems of late that comments by Drew and George seem to agitate me more than ever. Mr. Gooddman has always pushed my button when calling the Rays “Tampa”. Either he sucks at MLB geography or because he is a New Yorker he just does it on purpose. In any event, several times during this series they were quick to point out the short comings of the A’s. Short comings that the Rockies are a poster team for.
Sorry Mr. Goodman but if you are going to talking about splits or not being able to pitch to LH or RH batters, you should start with the Rockies.
Apparently the Rockies batboy still hasn’t found the key to the bat locker.
Maybe they are already packed up for the road trip.
dang you Justin!!!
I can see the headlines now. “Rockies GM Fires Batboy. Cites him as the source of the bad clubhouse attitude.”
LMAO
GM Quoted as saying, “I really thought he was the best in the business, but I don’t know all of the batboys, so I guess I was wrong.”
I listened to a few innings this afternoon while I was in the care and apparently I was a good luck charm. The innings I listened the A’s didn’t score. (Of course neither did the Rockies).
I just noticed the paid attendance at 32,000+. As long as that many suckers keep going the Montforts will have no reason to try to improve the team.
Jim Tracy, who I guess is here as long as he wants, had chances to add on runs last night but chose to manage like a guy who knows his job is safe so why try to win. Last night in the 5th or 6th inning EY pinch hit with two guys on and I believe none out. Perhaps there was one out. I thought that was a great time to put Giambi in as a pinch hitter with the hope that a 3 run homer might put the game out of reach. Instead EY is up and I guess he thought he was Giambi so the best bunter on the team tried to hit a homer. Great strategy.
And one or two other times later in the game we could have played for one run here and there but instead we tried to hit 3 run homers only to fail.
Betancourt didn’t get the job done last night but Tracy uses him so infrequently what do you expect. This is the year of the ticked off fan.
Before the season I bought tickets for opening day and the fireworks game on June 30.
On opening day I left in the 6th inning.
Now I’m trying to sell my tickets for the fireworks game.
This season has gone from fingers-crossed to bad to pathetic. I love good baseball, no matter who plays it. I’ve stopped watching and listening. No point anymore.
And the organization from the owners through the GM to the manager and probably the coaching staff is CLUELESS.
Or maybe they think the fans are just plain stupid and will keep paying major league prices for minor league ball.
What ticks me off is that those who’ve hated on management for years are getting the last laugh. Those of us who defended the philosophy of building from within are looking like suckers. I always wanted to believe the little guy could pull it off and, after 2007, I was convinced. When the DP would put up the very unflattering BIB GM’s mug shot, I’d want to ring their necks. Yet, here we are five years later going backwards. Even Coors Field has reverted. Hell, things are so depressing I’m starting to feel sorry for Jim Tracy. Eight in a row could easily reach seventeen. Let’s see how many party people want to hang out at the stadium then.
Seth Smith and Chris Iannetta (injured but still around to ruin his new team’s clubhouse culture) 6, Veteran Clubhouse Presences 0.
Why not can Abodaca? What, at this point of utter loss, does the team have to lose?
I was at the game today and the team just seemed dead…..no life at all. We got swept by the team with the worst hitters in the MLB!! How can this be happening? The Rockies used to be my stress relief….now they cause more stress. I can’t even call this year a bridge year, or a rebuilding year. Yikes. Year of the Fan, my eye. It’s the year the SH*T hit the Fan.
I think you should try and change the YotF chalk text behind home plate to that next time you are at the field!
Good post again, Batgirl. Nice to know there’s another girl on here
I have to say you’d look dead too if you had to play on this team. Their spirits are getting crushed. And they can’t turn away, like we can (try to) do. They’re stuck with themselves! Or should I say, “the hitters are stuck with the pitchers.” Just to oversimplify.
Hey roxnsox – nice to “meet” another girl on the site! Are you also a Red Sox fan? White Sox? Trying to decipher your name. If you are, it must be nice to have a second team to root for! In my despair over this season, I tried to get interested in another team but it just didn’t work. I’m a Rockies fan through and through….a dispirited one.
Batgirl, I hesitate to admit it around here, after the Series in 2007, but the Red Sox were my first love. I grew up in Denver, on the Bears, but lived in Mass. for a few years in the 80s and adopted the Sox during an exciting time. THRILLED when the Rox got here, along with my late dad who’s the one who taught me to love the game, and a diehard ever since…and yup, heavily dispirited. This is the worst ever (oh, maybe I’ve blocked out the early-mid 2000s….) I still have hope for Boston this year but they sure are struggling with injuries and ineffective starting pitching.
