Carlos Gonzalez will sit out the first of three against the Philadelphia Phillies tonight as a precaution, according to a quick chat with Troy Renck via Twitter:

Talked to Cargo and he said “i will be in there tomorrow. [They] just want me to rest it one more day”. Has soreness behind right knee…He doesn’t think it’s anything to worry about. And again plans on playing Wednesday.

EYj will again lead-off, playing center with Tyler Colvin moving to left.  EYj got the start on Sunday and went 1-4 with a stolen base (his 7th of the season), while Colvin was 2-4 with a double in Sunday’s start.  In the last six starts Colvin is hitting .435 (10-23) with 3 doubles, 4 HR’s, 7 RBI’s and 5 runs scored.

Josh Outman will be on the mound for tonight’s match up.  Outman was originally selected by the Phillies in the 10th round of the 2005 First-Year Player Draft.  Tonight will mark his second career start against the Phillies (6.0, 3 er, 2 bb, 4 so on 6/26 at PHI).

In a season full of upside-down horseshoes of bad luck, the Rockies will face Cole Hamels.  Hamels is 9-3 with a 3.34 average this season.

They still have no idea, even after going to a hernia specialist, what is wrong with Tulo…

While we are thinking about center fielders that bat left handed, who do you guys like best to play center field for the Rockies long term:

    1. Fowler (switch hitter)
    2. Colvin
    3. Wheeler
    4. Blackmon
    5. EY2 (switch hitter)

With Cargo and Cuddyer entrenched firmly in left and right, I would expect someone (maybe more) to be traded from the group above.

What the…you think just because we have 21/2 major league center fielders on the big team, and 2 more at AAA,that the Rockies would ever consider trading for say pitching. You must be insane. After all if we trade one then we’ll only have 31/2 for one position!

Well technically Blackmon is playing at low A ball in Tri-City right now, but ya I think Blackmon and Wheeler are ready to be MLB center fielders. BTW just guessing your 1/2 player there is probably EY2, but I won’t tell Pooter that you said that.

Yes, I have now officially changed my mind (that is short hand for admitting that I had badly misjudged them) about the Rockies starting pitching – it is horrible. It definitely won’t be easy but the Rockies have to acquire two legit MLB starters before next season to have any shot at winning in 2013.

I think chances are Cuddyer move to 1st base by 2014. At least I sorta hope Helton goes quietly in the night. But who knows.

I’m with Gary that my cynicism says the Rockies managment is so clueless they will keep all their LH CFs and 2 of them will rot in the minors until they have no trade value at all and the other 2 and 1/2 will provide mediocre performance in the bigs and lose their trade value.

I love Dexter, but he has the most trade value. I think he’s the one to move. Being a Boras client doesn’t hurt his chance of being traded either.

Unlike all the defense first people around this blog I really like Cuddyer in right field with that canon arm. The Rockies said no to a first baseman coming back for Guthrie, so I guess there are still a plethora of first basemen waiting in the wings to replace Helton – well maybe not so much?
