Johnny “Sparkplug” Herrera is back with the team and to make space LeMahieu has been sent back to Colorado Springs. Herrera will be at short, allowing Scutaro to move back to second. Bigger buzz than normal for tonight’s game, thanks to Oswalt’s debut with the Rangers.

IN GAME CHAT

Wow, no comments on this game at all. And am I right that the in-game chat only had 2 comments, both before the game started? Rockies brass: take notice. Even hardcore fans are losing interest fast.
Ubaldo last night: 6+ shutout innings, 8 Ks. Ubaldo in June: 26.1 IP, 2.05 ERA. Maybe we were a bit too hasty in sticking a fork in him? Ubaldo overall (even give a miserable April/May): 7-5, 4.59. No, that’s not an “ace.” But remember, he is making less money this year than our “ace,” Mr. Guthrie.
As we approach the ASB (if anyone still cares, myself included), I’ll do a rundown of “What if O’Dowd had simply done nothing” from the time of the Ubaldo trade onward. I’m guessing this club wouldn’t be as bad as it is now.
Excellent points, Ag.
“Even hardcore fans are losing interest fast.”
As if they cared about the hardcore fan. They care about entertainment and, more specifically, making a profit from that entertainment. Over the years the Monforts have done their smoke and mirror routine just good enough to keep us diehards interested. A few months in 2007 and 2009 gave us a glimpse of what could happen if everyone believed in themselves and the team. Every other year has been an example of how a dysfunctional family disintegrates. Meanwhile, the giddy fan says, “Gee, aren’t we having a fun time at the old ballpark–safe and secure, plenty of food and drink, and we even get to do the wave.”
They had me up until last year when I think you finally showed me the light about management. Once again, thanks for helping me take off the purple sunglasses.

Ubaldo needed out of here and never would have performed up to his capabilities. I’m happy for him. If you loose a player’s heart, you’re going to have a mediocre player at best, so might as well move on. At least now he doesn’t have to pretend he cares about winning for a management team he doesn’t respect.

I care and I’m looking forward to it. Too bad you can’t somehow document how the before and after teams would have fared if we’d had anyone but the BMIB at the controls. Perhaps replacing JT was the only move DOD should have made.
From all reports it seems that this 4 man, 75 pitch rotation was DoD’s idea. When your boss tells you do something you do it or usually lose your job. So, unfortunately, JT had no choice although I wish he had said no. But then DoD would still be in charge.
All year the biggest complaint is that the starting pitching has not gone deep enough in the game. Now that is the plan. No matter how well the starter is pitching, out he comes. No need to yank Francis or Friedrich the past two games. The fact that we won on Wednesday night should not be seen as justification for this idiocy.
I wish some big buck kind of person who wants to win would make the Monferts an offer they couldn’t refuse. Then clean house. Everybody from DoD to the batboy should go. No keep the batboy. Listened to a “softball” interview on KOA the other day of DoD by Jerry Schimmel. DoD told us fans to have patience and we have a great group of guys who have not blamed the other guys. So I guess it’s true that all the off-season moves were to improve the clubhouse atmosphere. And then he spent the 2nd half of the “interview” talking about his son who was a 20 or 23rd round pick in the recent draft by the Padres.
Renck seemed to be saying that the Rockies didn’t go after Oswalt because they would have had to overpay him. Well they overpaid for Cuddeyer, they overpaid for Guthrie (if he’s paid more than $1 he’s overpaid), they’ve overpaid for Helton etc. I don’t know if Oswalt would have come here anyway but they should have tried. He’s done well here. I like Cuddeyer but there was no great need for him.
Hec, I think the game is on now but I’m not watching yet. I think they are the night game tomorrow.
I admit while they are on the road, I am spending more time outside than sitting around waiting for them to play. If I am home I watch. I’m still going to San Diego.
“Join the Toyota talk, Just text blah blah blah to 720720″ they keep pimping this crap yet seemingly the same dozen or so texters are on night after night after night saying the same ridiculous (to me) stuff. I have texted 4x times now and not once has it made on air. Of the 4 only 1 was probably a little over the top.
