Herrera leading off? Welcome back Sparkplug…
Stroke of luck, that Tulo injury. Without it, Chris Nelson would’ve never had a chance to play. With it, we may just be witnessing a genuine breakout by a talented kid who’s had so many interruptions in his pro career that he’s never gotten over the hump. I was a big supporter of Nelson up till this season, when I thought he’d run out of chances to prove his worth on what should have been a competitive team. Now that we’re not a competitve team he’s got plenty of chances. Plea to Jim Tracy: do not “give Nelson a day off because the Texas heat wears players down,” or “let Herrera and Pacheco have their chance at 2B and 3B tomorrow.” Play him every day the rest of the year and let’s see if we just might’ve solved that impossible 2B problem (or 3B problem if you prefer).
For the first time in recent memory we now have a guy at 2B who is performing at roughly a league-average level. In a season to forget, that’s a pretty good development.
And the Rangers stacked the lineup with righty hitters against Outman with predictable results. Against the likes of Outman and Brothers, the mighty lefty Josh Hamilton went 0-5 with 4 Ks, leaving 5 runners on base. Meanwhile righties like Nelson Cruz feasted on Outman. The guy is a lefty reliever until he develops some pitch or strategy that can consistently get right-handed hitters out. Don’t dump him — a guy who can make Hamilton look bad is a valuable commodity. Dumping him now would be as silly as dumping Esmil Rogers AFTER you fall out of contention. But please send him back to the bullpen and work on having him attack lefty hitters. I expect him to be dropped from the rotation shortly in favor of Pomeranz or even Moscoso. (Sorry about the reply to myself! Interest is so low that I’m carrying on a conversation with myself whenever I feel like talking Rockies.)
I’ll play along Ags…how did Outman get to throw 92 pitches?? Do the new rules get relaxed on the weekends?
Also, Colvin is looking like a positive addition. To me, he’s earned more starts than what he’s getting.
I napped after the Rockies took that big lead. Got up and it was a close game.
I agree with Ag. Nelson’s deserves to play everyday. I think he’s a 2nd baseman.
Can’t understand Tracy. He takes Francis and Friedrich out after their 75 pitches, but leaves Outman in. I understand he had a big lead, but he hasn’t shown he can pitch more than 75 pitches all year.
Of course tomorrow is Sunday so Tracy will rest most everybody
Just watching the replay 5th inning of today’s game. Did anyone else see Outman bump Tracy as he came off the mound when he was taken out? He was clearly upset, and in my opinion Outman was sending a message to Tracy. Is this the first sign that JT is losing the team? I’d like to hear what others think that saw this.
Yes he was pissed and he did do the shoulder thing. He was mumbling words not typical of a PG rated program. It has since been alleged he was “disgusted with himself”.
JT should have left Outman in the game longer. I’m sure he would have got the 3rd out without the similar results yielded by Ottavino. Outman was pissed plain and simple and I don’t blame him. It was 11-3 and JT could only bend so far with Outman? So Ottavino comes in and gets hammered. Brothers comes in and gets to pad his stats.
