Moscoso has been officially optioned to triple-A to make room for Drew Pomeranz, who was called up and given the ball to start. Pomeranz was sent down to work on his delivery, something the team was worried about in his first few starts.
Cargo has been given the day off, perhaps to celebrate his first All Star selection, and Tyler Colvin will be playing left field in his place, batting fifth. The rest of the lineup looks like a flashback to the steady Sunday lineups of yore:
ROCKIES LINEUP
Fowler [CF]
Scutaro [2B]
Giambi [1B]
Cuddyer [RF]
Colvin [LF]
Pacheco [3B]
Herrera [SS]
Nieves [C]
Pomeranz [P]

Why not continue to give Nelson steady ABs and see what he’ll do with about 450 plate appearances?
Nice to see the Rockies best pitcher play some in the MLB!
First time as a Rockie that Pomeranz has looked like a guy who warranted the 5th draft pick overall. Very impressive.
Q. Why isn’t Nelson starting? A. Is it Sunday?
Of course, we continue with the usual “the worse the opponent’s starting pitcher, the worse our offense” trend. Kip Wells, shutout? Really? Hey, Jeff Suppan shut us out in April. Jason Marquis had us on the ropes for a while on Friday too.
kip fucking wells.
1 run in the 7th plus 1 run in the 8th = 2 runs. not sure if Rockies management understand that.
Rockies DO NOT play small ball regardless of the circumstances – why JT?
why try to move the runner over when you have the power hitting J. Herrera and W. Nieves coming up.
Tracy had the chance to pinch-hit with Cargo in the 7th and possibly tie up the game. Instead he pinch hit with EY and Cargo never got a chance. Why don’t we win on Sunday? Because we have Jim Tracy as manager.
And 3 well pitched games by our starters but only one win. We lost one and possibly two of the games because of that idiotic pitch count theory of O’Dowd. If we’re only down 1 run rather than two in the 7th perhaps we play for one run but I guess Tracy thought his best strategy was hoping EY’s speed would result in a 2 run Little League homer.
Anybody know what the Rockies records is before and after this new 4 man rotation?
And…on the seventh day, the Rox rested.
It didn’t matter wether Kip Wells or Cy Young was pitching today, the Rox were doomed to lose today because of course it is Sunday and JT had his “roll over to the other team ” Sunday lineup.
This organization has no concept of what customer service is. It was obvious to all that Cargo was going to be named to his first ASG today, so what does JT do? Of course he sits him down. Let’s deny the paying customers and Cargo the opportunity for the Sunday crowd to give Cargo a well deserved standing O on the last home game before the ASG. I understand giving Cargo an occassional day off so he doesn’t wear out, but why not sit him tomorrow in STL where it will be hotter and more humid?
I refuse to financially support this organization until a house cleaning takes place. I had 4 tickets to last night’s game (worth $200) and gave them away.
“Let’s deny the paying customers and Cargo the opportunity for the Sunday crowd to give Cargo a well deserved standing O on the last home game before the ASG.”
And keep this in mind: walking down to the outfield for the fireworks on Friday I noticed this Joe DiMaggio quote posted permanently in the concourse outside the clubhouses:
“”There is always some kid who may be seeing me for the first or last time, I owe him my best.”
Jim Tracy should pay attention. Not only did he deprive the hometown fans of a chance to watch their All Star. He also whiffed on a great chance to win a series — at home — against one of the only 2 clubs who actually have worse records than the Rockies. Playing for the first draft pick? I’m not hearing about any Strasburg or Harper types in next years draft (once in a generation pitchers/position players). Maybe they know something I don’t.
Ag,
JT doesn’t pay attention because he’s the most stubborn man around. Not only is he stubborn, but he’s also very arrogant knowing he has this so called “lifetime handshake contract”. You’d think by now, after two years of Sunday futility he’d start making some adjustments to the way he goes about things on Sundays. It’s the most maddening thing I’ve ever seen.
Winning does not seem to be a priority for this team. In the so-called Year of the Fan it’s the fan who is getting screwed. On Sundays when they get probably their biggest crowds and more kids than other days they rest their stars. And then they wonder how come they don’t win.
Management complains that the bullpen is overworked and the starters don’t go long enough and then institute a plan they admit (although not in so many words) is grasping at straws that takes starters out even if they pitch well. Francis, Friedrich and Pomerancz all should have been kept in for at least another inning. And of course now the bullpen will be even more overworked and we lost two out of three games to the Padres who will probably move ahead of the Rockies shortly.
I’m a former season ticket holder but I’m so ticked off at the ownership and management that I haven’t been to a game in a year and a half.
Just out of curiosity: Pomeranz has logged about 74 IP this year. If they’re holding him to about 130, he has less than 60 to go. On the 75 pitch count thing, that probably means 10-12 more starts, which means he gets shut down by the end of August.
But he can get lots of work on his golf game!
I thought I read somewhere that they were going to let throw up to 150 innings, but I could be wrong. So glad that Pomeranz got the chance to start 10 games in Colorado Springs – not really.
