The pits.

I’ll admit, I’m a pessimistic person, but I am just itching for a day when I can come onto this site and NOT gripe about how this is one of the poorest run organizations in baseball. Everyday it just seems to get worse. Thats said, here goes!

Can you guys believe how fast they went from the WS to one of the worst teams in the league?

Normally when teams go through fire sales like the Marlins did you can count the returned product.

With 3 (2 if you don’t count Francis resigning) left from the World Series you would think “wow I bet they traded all their good players for prospects”.

Umm. No. They squandered it all away.

Then you look at the team and realize they aren’t cheap players. But no one really wants any of them except Tulo and Cargo. But you trade either of them and half your fan base is distraut beyond what they currently are.

As Ag points out you’re handcuffed to some over sentimentality. To others because they simply stink. You throw darts to pick what pitchers to bring in. You think 7 #5 starters equals aces.

Geez. This organization almost has a feeling of being an expansion team, just going through the motions hoping to luck into being good rather than making the moves to get there.

Thankfully, most of us are baseball fans and watching still gives us some pleasure in seeing the game played. Mostly it is watching amazing things coming from the other team (Trout killing us in every at bat, for example)…I am probably as optimistic as you are pessimistic and I know both of us would much rather we were talking about how long a winning streak will last, if CarGo can indeed be the first Rockie to win the triple-crown, etc…

But we’ve been saddled with this season and what a letdown it has been…The absolute conundrum for me is that it isn’t a clear cut, “one thing” that is happening…for example, Sunday we only gave up 2 runs – 2 freaking runs, at home, and lost…we’ve been saying, “pitching pitching pitching” and then we finally get some and we can’t hit to save our lives…so we say, “well, it was the lineup”, but Colvin was in there and Dex was hot, i don’t know – i’m as confused as Tracy proposes to be…

Another oddity is that some players will leave, or get sent down, and immediately do better…like they have a weight off their shoulder and can be themselves…For example, Edwar Cabrera, who was blasted in his start, made his first triple-A start today and guess what – he struck out 13!!!! That crap just baffles me…only gave up one run in 6 2/3′s…throw Hammel, Cook, Morales, Rogers, etc. etc. etc. in there and how they’ve done and you gotta believe it is mental – if it is poor coaching, or physical, how did they so quickly pick up on a new way of doing things? And Hammel gave credit to the Rockies pitching staff for getting him to, “wake up” on his delivery…

I’ve also blamed the WS/Play-Off birth for the fans expectation and feel that management have relied too much on them not only to keep people coming, but to feel that the team, “is never really out of it”…it is like a drug – just give them a taste, first ones for free, but then it will cost you and have you in the mighty grasp…

You know, one of the bright spots this season is the last three starts from Francis…Fuentes just got DFA’d, so we could really start rebuilding our ’07 team if we wanted to :-) GET ME JOSH FOGG’S NUMBER!!!

I admit it that I am actually an optimistic baseball fan and feel pretty much this same way about the the Rockies. My new daily routine is to check each of the minor league (Rockies) teams to see if there is any hope in the farm system. Again I am an optimist, but not alot to get excited about on the farm – at least not for 2013 anyway.

And yes the MLB Rockies have fallen apart much faster than anyone that I know had predicted. But when you put your faith in a GM that basically has two winning seasons out of a dozen, as well as a Manager that has had his team quit on him for the month of September not once but twice – well this situation is way beyond logic, comprehension or even explanation!

Why shouldn’t the team quit on Tracy? He quits on the team regularly. One of the well known thoughts is that no lead is safe at Coor’s Field. So the Rockies get behind and JT pulls the starters because in his mind the game is already lost. He would rather lose an extra inning game than keep trying to win it because playing too many innings messes with his plans.

He has made the statement that you only need to win 15 games a month to be in contention. Obviously you cannot win every game but he goes into too many games not even trying to win them. With a manager having an “I don’t don’t care if we lose attitude” what type of attitude would you expect the players to have?

Don’t know about that, but he does have the “win in 9 no matter what” mentality, so he will throw everything he can at the game to win in the 9th, even if it doesn’t make sense…

Let’s get Josh Fogg (Great one Jaredean) to be a player-pitching coach. It can’t be any worse than what we’re putting on the field now.
I would elect Jason Giambi for player-batting coach, too.
I’m also going to throw my 7 year old grandson into the mix as he could manage this team better than MFLJT (I can think of 3 words that fit MFL better than Manager For Life).
Come to think of it, he might do better than BIB as the GM, too.
He bats & throws righty and plays shortstop (I hear we’re looking for a temp stand-in) so he can contribute on the field as well.
Think of all the money we would save!!

Sarcasm aside, I just can’t watch this team these days, the way they’re playing, and ALL the wonderful management decisions I’ve seen (Oops, sorry, more sarcasm).

    This is THE PITS.

Like Orange Rocks I am usually optimistic. Every day I check my sports site and hope that Jim Tracy has been fired. Then the day goes downhill from there.

Seriously a few of you mentioned that it doesn’t seem like winning is his #1 priority. He’s gotta get this guy rest, gotta get this guy a chance to play, gotta make sure this guy doesn’t throw more than 75 pitch, etc. etc. But he rarely talks about winning.

By the way just checked out Tom Verducci’s Mid Season choices for Awards and his #1 Manager of the Year choice in the NL is Clint Hurdle. Only one Rockie got any mention and that was Cargo who I think was #7 in MVP. His stats say he should be ranked higher but we’re tied for last place with him in the lineup. If he was having a bad year we couldn’t drop much further.

And you know what, I’ll probably watch a few innings tonight since the local fireworks show has been cancelled.
