1.)  Since returning from his late May stint at AAA Colorado Springs, LH reliever REX BROTHERS has pitched well.  From June 2, through the all-star break, BROTHERS fanned 23 batters in his 16.2 innings of work.  At the time of his demotion, BROTHER’S ERA was 5.87; it has dropped to 3.66.

2.) DEXTER FOWLER already has career high 11 home runs.  The Rockies are 7-4 this season when DEX homers. He also leads the majors with 9 1st half triples.  The Rockies are 4-5 in games in which FOWLER triples. A year ago FOWLER had 55 total extra base hits; he has at 31 at the break.

3.) Last season, with Boston, MARCO SCUTARO appeared in only 51, of a possible 90, 1st half games for the Red Sox. SCUTARO hit .249 with 6 doubles, 0 triples, 4 homers, and 15 rbi’s. This season, MARCO has appeared in 82 of the Rockies’ 85 1st half games. SCUTARO has hit .277 with 13 doubles, 3 triples, 4 homers, and 24 rbi’s.

4.) MICHAEL CUDDYER had a career high 109 rbi’s in 2006 (w/MINN), with 48 coming in the 1st half. This year. CUDDYER has a career high 50 first half ribbies. #3 has driven in a run in 33 games.  The Rockies are 17-16 when CUDDYER notches a RBI.

5.) Rookie JORDAN PACHECO has started 52 games, and hit safely in 40 of his 52 starts. JORDAN reached base in 45 of those 52 starts (86.5% of his starts). PACHECO is also 10th in the NL with a .259 BA with a 2 strike count. The NL average in that hitting situation is .176.

6.) JASON GIAMBI walked 17 times in the 1st half, twice intentionally. Last SEASON, GIAMBI walked a total of 17 times; and was not intentionally walked.

7.) Despite his .235 BA, TODD HELTON’S 1st half production numbers predict that he will meet his results of last year. In 2011, in 124 games, HELTON had 27 doubles, 0 triples, 14 home runs, and 69 rbi’s.  In 2012, in 63 games, a little more than half of last year’s 124, TODD has 13 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, and 34 rbi’s.  I know, I know…TODD will celebrate his 39th birthday on 8/20.

8.) The Rockies top 6 base stealers through the 1st half of 2012 are:

Carlos Gonzalez     11/1
Eric Young               10/1
Michael Cuddyer       8/1
Dexter Fowler            7/1
Marco Scutaro           7/2
Jordan Pacheco        4/0

These 6 are a combined 57 for 63 in stolen bases; a 90% success rate.

9.) After the 1st half, JONATHAN HERRERA has 10 extra base hits in 43 games; his most extra base hits in a single season.

10.) MATT BELISLE has allowed 10 1st half earned runs in a MLB high 43 1st half games. 5 other pitchers have appeared in 43 1st games.  All 5 have ERA’s over 2.38 or higher. BELISLE’S ERA sits at 1.93. #34 has allowed zero earned runs in 34 of his 43 appearances. Since June 1st, BELISLE has appeared in 18 games, allowing 3 earned runs in 20.1 innings of work for an era of 1.33.

11.) Closer RAFAEL BETANCOURT ended 8 of his 15 1st half saves with a STRIKE OUT. 19 of  BETANCOURT’S 42 career saves have come with a game ending STRIKE OUT.

12.) Lefty JEFF FRANCIS ended the 1st half by helping the Rockies go 4-1 in his last 5 starts. In those 5 outings, left handed hitters have 5 singles in 21 at bats (.238 BA) against FRANCIS, with no rbi’s, no walks, 6 strike outs, and 1 GIDP.

13.) COLORADO had 11 different pitchers start a game; and 11 different pitchers work ONLY in relief. Relievers have 17 of the Rockie’s 33 1st half wins. Only the Padres had a higher split of starters/relievers. SD used 13 different starting pitchers and 13 different pitchers worked ONLY in relief. Starters have 21 of the Padres’ 34 1st half wins.

      thank you mr. negative :-)

yes, the reality is win/loss is really the ONLY one that counts…but it isn’t in this list and if we can take away any solace from this sloppy and sad season we can at least praise great players for playing great…Belisle has, once again, proven he is l.e.g.i.t and should have been on the All Star team…
