A comment by Ego got me wondering about how the teams rank when sorted by ERA, then compared to their wins so far this season…Looking at the list below the thing that totally stands out is this:
Eight of the top 10 teams based on ERA are also in the top 10 in the league for wins. The other two are 13th and 17th.
Seven of the bottom 10 teams, based on ERA, are in the bottom 10 for wins. The other two are 19th and 16th.
If anyone tells you that pitching doesn’t win games, there is your proof that, at least right now in this season, it does.
TEAMS SORTED BASED ON WIN’S (NUMBER TO LEFT IS ERA RANK)
| 10 | New York Yankees |
| 8 | Texas Rangers |
| 1 | Washington Nationals |
| 2 | Los Angeles Dodgers |
| 3 | Cincinnati Reds |
| 5 | Pittsburgh Pirates |
| 7 | Los Angeles Angels |
| 13 | Chicago White Sox |
| 6 | San Francisco Giants |
| 12 | Atlanta Braves |
| 13 | St. Louis Cardinals |
| 17 | New York Mets |
| 9 | Tampa Bay Rays |
| 15 | Detroit Tigers |
| 19 | Baltimore Orioles |
| 28 | Cleveland Indians |
| 4 | Oakland Athletics |
| 20 | Boston Red Sox |
| 26 | Toronto Blue Jays |
| 18 | Arizona Diamondbacks |
| 21 | Miami Marlins |
| 23 | Milwaukee Brewers |
| 22 | Philadelphia Phillies |
| 25 | Kansas City Royals |
| 16 | Seattle Mariners |
| 29 | Minnesota Twins |
| 24 | Chicago Cubs |
| 11 | San Diego Padres |
| 30 | Colorado Rockies |
| 27 | Houston Astros |

I guess this further proves the point JD, but I thought I saw something on the broadcast last night about how the Rockies are #1 or #2 in the main 4 OFFENSIVE categories in the NL (I think that’s what it was, i was looking through a beer mug)
In any case that just points out how bad our pitching has been!
You are close – not quite top 2…here are the stats for the Rox on the
AVG: 4th (.269)
OBP: 6th (.330)
SLG: 3rd (.446)
OPS: 3rd (.777)
Many would credit Coors with the stats, but since we play 1/2 our games here it should actually help us in the W column more than hurt us in the standings (that is if we could actually get pitching to cooperate)…
Ryan Dempster,Ryan Dempster! He lives in Denver and the Cubs seem to fall for our Bernie Madoff trades. We have a cornicopia of AAA outfielders blocked at MLB level,Brown is big league ready now,and plenty of “arms” with big league potential.I,for one,am sick of “potential”.Offer Chatwood,White,Outman,Moscoso,Matzek,Blackmon,Wheeler,Brown,EYjr.in any combination, and sweeten the deal with one[only one]of Betencourt,Roenicke,Brothers,or Pachecho,Nelson.
