Sunday Rubber Match Lineup

The scouts are out in full force at Coors, though most of them will be looking at Hammels.

Hoping to take the series with a win today against Hammels, and possibly trying to impress the scouts in attendance, Tracy has his best team on the field in a very “un-Sunday” like lineup.

ROCKIES LINEUP

Fowler [CF]
Scutaro [2B]
CarGo [LF]
Hernandez [C]
Cuddy [1B]
Colvin [RF]
Nelson [3B]
Rutledge [SS]
Pomeranz [LHP]

Very surprised to see Colvin in the lineup today in light of his boneheaded baserunning play last night. I saw the play this morning, and it was embarrassing. It’s another indication of how JT has lost control of this team. In the past when something like this happens, the player in question usually sits the next day. Is this a sign of desperation on the part of JT?

Yep JT is a real players manager alright. Now I realize that errors and mistakes will happen in baseball, however when a player is flat out lazy or completely without any hustle then he should definitely sit in my book – detriment to the tean and .300 BA be darned. We could only hope that Cuddyer jumps this kids case big time, as that type of play should just not happen at the MLB level.

It’s Sunday and where exactly are Nieves, Nelson and Herrara in this lineup – ok who kidnapped JT and sent hin back to LA? Not that that is really such a terrible idea!

Just heard the attendance count for today’s game- 25,000 plus. Is this the beginning of the season’s attendance decline? Here you have a beautiful Colorado summer day and a popular team like the Phillies in town and they draw 25k. I’m willing to go on a limb and say the team doesn’t draw 30K plus more than five times the rest of the year. That will be the only thing that will get the Monfort’s attention that they need to wake up and realize that a change is needed.

Wow, did anyone else hear the Cowboy’s rant in the postgame show? I know he’s been very critical since the departure of Apodaca, but today he racheted up another notch. When you start using phrases as “developmental mistakes” and “lack of leadreship”, the message he’s trying to send is very clear. I’m not sure who he was directing his critism to, but the message was very clear. Way to go Cowboy, keep it up.

CK, with the mlb.com package I don’t get to see the postgame as the broadcast shuts off either right after the game or occasionally right after an on-field interview. Can you give details of the “rant” of TR?

Bob, he was upset that no one came out to calm down DrewPo in the 5th inn. After getting the first two outs in the inning he was obviously struggling and he felt someone should have come out and settled the kid down and perhaps it could have avoided the results. I got the impression he was directing his frustration at Tracy, but I could be wrong.

I wasn’t seeing that happen very often while Apodaca was the pc either. Consistent problem with this coaching staff.

I wonder if we are playing for Mark Appel next season. A top college senior starter that hopefully would be within 2 years of making the bigs would be a no brainer.

Mark Appel from Stanford? Another Stanford pitcher selected in the first two picks in the draft? No thank you, we’ve seen that act before.

I saw the Cowboy’s comments (DVR’d the game), and I thought they were addressed more toward Ramon Hernandez. Did Hernandez not go to the mound to try to calm Pomeranz down? If he did, I guess the Cowboy is picking on the co-pitching coaches. We know the Cowboy is friendly with Apodaca. But c’mon Cowboy, answer me this: exactly how much of a “calming effect” did Apodaca have on our 6.20 ERA starters this season before he “asked to be reassigned?” What I saw in the reply lowlight was a young pitcher missed badly on a 2 strike pitch and it got hammered. Happens all the time, especially this season.

(going into my Harry Caray voice…)

Ya know… baseball is my passion. Baseball, Beatles, broads (sorry girls!) and my dog make my life worth living.

This year, for the first time I can remember, I am counting the days until the Broncos start camp. Been a Bronco fan for 40+ years, but the NFL (including the Broncos) always took a back seat to baseball until, at the earliest, Labor Day. Not this year.

When DOD was not let go at the ASB, that told me he is here for the rest of the year, with one last chance at redemption. Thing is, when your team is so buried and is bringing up guys from the farm, there are often improvements in team performance, and I fear that we will go into 2013 with the same brain (fill in the blank) trust.

I really like Dan O’Dowd. I’ve met him briefly on a number of occasions, and think he’s a really good baseball guy. However, his time here is up. He isn’t going to make it happen here. We’ve changed the culture of the locker room, now we have to change the culture of the board room.

I have long hoped that Mark Cuban would buy the team. Still do. Even though Dick and Charlie represent the kind of social politics that I abhor, I find them both to be pretty decent guys one on one. However, that aint good enough for owning a MLB team.

Owning and running a baseball team is a civic treasure, with responsibilities attached to the millions that come with it. It’s time for the curators to either act accordingly or gtf out of the way. The time is now. GTF out of the way! The fans of Denver deserve better.

Iggy, I couldn’t agree more…in fact I would love to have Mark Cuban own the Rockies – i posted an opinion piece at the beginning of the season that talked about him buying the Dodgers and how much I loved the idea of him owning a baseball team – he is one of my favorite owners because he actually cares about winning as much, if not more so, than the fans…

Here is what I wrote: http://www.roxwalkoff.com/2011/12/28/mark-cuban-in-dodger-blue/

I realize there is little point,or interest in disecting game decisions, but I have a gripe about JT’s use of Betencourt over the weekend. On Sat.after baby bull’s HR,which made it a one run game,JT didn’t go to Rhaffy to pitch the ninth, and the Phils scored 3 runs to put the game away.I’m well aware of prevailing convention that you only use closer-at home-when score is tied or home team is ahead. However, after nearly a week off,and a light workload all season,I really felt Betencourt could have been able to go two innings if necessary.Momentum, and last at bats were in the ROX favor. Now this wouldn’t have gotten my dander up if in todays game[Sun.],Tracy didn’t decide to use Bettencourt in the 9th of a lost cause. To add insult to injury, the ROOT crew explains its to get him some work to keep him sharp!WTF!!!Yesterday his use could just as easily got him “work” and might have led to a win.Today his use was insulting to him and those of us who still care enough to watch this daily horror show.
