As if it isn’t hard enough starting your very first game for the Rockies (only your 12th game of your career), you gotta be put in the hardest spot in the line-up – at least mentally – cleanup? Perhaps JT thinks that he will have a “Rutledge” type of first game and wants to take advantage of it…
With all of the talk about CarGo getting pitched differently, because Tulo isn’t protecting him, what sense does putting Brown in the lineup behind him make?
Today’s rubber-match first pitch time is 1:10 PM.

Fowler [CF]
Scutaro [2B]

IN GAME CHAT

I missed the beginning of the pre-game, but Ringolsby said that the Yankee’s are interested in Guthrie???
Also Nelson visited the field for a little bit, so that is good…
I hear getting a cardio revert and going home can be a normal thing.
Guthrie ERA at Coors Field this year: 9.51
This is the third time in the last week that a three-run homer followed a WALK WALK WALK. ()&*#)*(&#
speed kills, but so do walks-especially at Coors. If Gutherie starts another game I refuse to watch it.ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did anyone else see Guthrie’s reaction as he exited the dugout after being taken out? He tears his Rockies jersey off just before he disappears into the tunnel. Why not just release this guy and spare him and the rest of us all the misery? This guy can’t get out of here fast enough.
Obviously, Guthrie will be gone at some point (and probably go 9-1 for the Yankees). It will be interesting to hear his comments on management, pitching coaches, pitch selection, etc. I’m sure there’s plenty of blame to go around besides himself in this mess.
Bob, while there is plenty of blame to go around, it seems that Guthrie wants to start some shit. The Rox are bad, very bad. However, when he cashed his checks, worked his spring and took the mound, it was with the best intentions of the team. They counted on him. He failed, the Rox failed. However, you don’t see DOD ripping his shirt off. Guthrie, who I thought was a pretty class act until recently, should just take his lumps until the team does him a favor and deals him. Not like he has Hall of Fame credentials to protect, unless he doesn’t want to lose more than the 17 he lost two times in previous seasons!
I’m not sure he was upset at the team/management when he ripped off his shirt, i think he was upset at himself and how he pitched…he says he felt good before going out there and obviously nobody goes out to do bad – personally i was really hoping he would do well with us, but we HAVE to have nothing but groundball pitchers here – flyball pitchers just can’t cut it…
I think personally the guy is a pretty decent guy, nothing i’ve seen form him off the field says otherwise, but you don’t know how you’d act with all of the pressure, 30,000+ booing you as you blow it for your team that worked hard to get 5 runs and you gave them away in 2/3 of an inning…tearing off your jersey as you head to the clubhouse is anger and passion, something we wish the rest of the team would show when they aren’t doing well, make mistakes – instead of just standing there looking bored…i don’t fault the jersey ripping, just wish we didn’t have his track record here at Coors…
Another series where we win the opener and end up losing the next two.
IMO that’s a clear leadership problem.
Not surprising to see Guthrie fuck up again. You can cut the guy, eat 100% of his salary and still win the day. If any move in the history of baseball can be considered an addition by subtraction, it would be to move this guy. Awful. Horrible. Possibly worst acquisition in Rox history.
