Game On Between the White Lines @ STL 7/30/2015

Matt Holliday is out of the lineup for a while.  He will be replaced in LF by some guy named Piscotty.  Tonight is CarGo’s chance to demonstrate why he should be in the Cardinals’ dugout tomorrow night when he faces Carlos Martinez (11-4, 2.34).  As some of the knowledgeable RWOers have expressed, the Cards are deep in their pitching department and they may be willing to donate a couple of pitching prospects to add to the pipeline which is getting wider by the days  leading up to the draft deadline.

Note to the organizations: Please wait until after the game concludes before making any trade(s) official.

Play ball!

I’m looking over the return the Brewers got from the Astros for Gomez and Fiers and I think it’s very possible they did better than the deal that almost went down with the Mets. Good for them.

Keep a close eye on the ChiSox and Orioles, the may make a run at Cargo.

DJ up to #6 among 2nd basemen with a WAR of 2.9. Very close (and trending towards) #3.

Wow, Marc Stout, way to interview the boy child who caught a home run ball (off his sister’s FACE, apparently) and almost totally shut out the girl child (who was also dying to tell and be included) from the story. Poorly done.

Signed,
Girl-child fan who thankfully had a dad more awake than you in the 1960s

Mercy, these guys do find ways to lose (still 8-8 but nobody out and bases full). Good grief. Axford has no more trade value, to top it off.

Ax is a classic Rox reclamation turned mistake. They sign him for cheap, get him going in the right direction……and then didn’t trade when he was overperforming.

Castro tomorrow please. This is torture.

Whatever happened to shaving that ugly ass beard when you’re pitching like crap?

1. Walks in the winning run.
2. Wild pitches it in.

Is there really any other option here?

Well……no.

DFA Axford. Tomorrow. Enough. What a pathetic performance. Literally anyone would be better now.

25 pitches, 8 strikes. For a closer. Send him to Tyler Matzekland.

Great team vs. terrible team, illustrated. You’ve got to hold a late lead, boys! So, RWO, is the pen the weakest link? (I’m honestly asking, though it seems obvious.)

12 or 13 guys are our weakest link…every frickin’ one of them.

Not a keeper in the lot…I mean that literally. Not one.

Ed, you have a point — when your team is this bad, there’s absolutely no on who should be untouchable. Scored 8 runs! Against the mighty Cards … and still lost. In humiliating fashion.

No! We have keepers. A few;)

Friedrich, only one.

Oh, you guys mean no keepers in the pen, I guess. I misread you at first saying NO ONE ON THE TEAM…

Perhaps we need to consider changing the name of this website. We have too many Rox walk-offs that consist of our guys walking off the field as the other team celebrates. Man, this is beyond frustrating for us fans. Imagine what it must be like for the guys in the field who just fought back again to take what should have been a final lead.

Yep, Bob, I have often wondered what keeps guys going on bad teams when they know they have a long way to go and no hope. (And please, nobody say they are handsomely paid. That’s nice for sure, but these guys are human and they hurt.)

It helps breed the losing culture I believe Bob.Team has been scoring on the road at least enough to be .500 so far this trip and Axford literally ripping their hearts out.A brawl would have at least made it interesting.Team showed spunk and Axford showed shit.Time for breaking in young guys like Miller[who has looked pretty good] or Oberg.Somebody-anybody else PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Walt leaves him out there when the whole world can tell that he can’t throw a strike to save his career. He did this a few weeks ago with Boone Logan too. That Justin Miller waiver wire guy would be better. Anyone. Why the allegiance to John frickin’ Axford? To those of you cheering him in April and May — THIS is why Brewers and Reds fans were all too happy to see him run out of town.

Something happened. He returned from family leave on July 4, and has been terrible since. Velocity is still there, location and sequence are gone. I wish I had any answer as to why, beyond the obvious can’t throw strikes right now. The allegiance is easy to explain. This 40-man roster had 4 guys who have closed regularly at some point before this season. All 4 have failed, one is now gone. The guy who should be closing blew out an… Read more »

Guys and girls – this illustrates the point that I’ve been trying to get across since May of 2014. We need help everywhere. Contrary to popular belief, we don’t play great team defense. Contrary to popular belief, we’re not a great offensive team. Consistent with popular belief – our pitching (SP and BP) sucks. So with the trade deadline looming I’ll reiterate again……we simply need talent, period.

And yet Bridich still repels the dread word Rebuild. Although to be fair, does any team flat admit to that?

roxnsox, I don’t think KC and Houston had any qualms about using the “R” word. Fans kept away in droves, so I guess that’s what Monfort is scared of.

But did they actually use the word, admit it, or just go about it?

In this era of clever wordsmithing perhaps he can call “a contender coming to Coors in 2019.” Buy your tickets now.

Otherwise, stay the course and call it:

70-92
70-92
70-92
70-92
70-92
…………you get the picture.

Axford actually walked in the winning run on Ball 5, after getting a mercy strike call from the ump the pitch before. Shades of Shawn Chacon as Closer. Only on the Rockies. Only the Rockies.

I know you guys (and girls) think I’m crazy – but put NoDo on the block and the talent influx will be ridiculous. Think outside the box.

Somewhere Scott Boras is laughing.

Something to watch for tomorrow……as many in baseball continue to dismiss (or diminish) the role of the Closer…….the Yankees get Craig Kimbrel for the 9th, move Andrew Miller to the 8th, and move Dillon Betances to the 7th. That my friends…….is a daunting task for the opposing team and Manager.

Miguel Castro – 7 pitches. 6 strikes. 3 outs.

What concerns me most is that we have no idea if these guys in the minors that everyone is pinning their hopes on will be any better than Ian Stewart, Josh Rutledge, Ben Petrick, Greg Reynolds, etc., all highly praised buy total busts. Trading Nolan Arenado to make way for Ryan McMahon is sure making a leap of faith at this point. I hear all your banter about prospects, free agents, and trade targets. While I know most of your… Read more »

THIS! “To me, the only way to get out of this 23 year mess (4 WC seasons excluded) is to re-invent the organization and its culture. Monfort isn’t going anywhere and Bridich has not been in the driver’s seat long enough to demonstrate whether his approach will be successful, so he gets a deserved pass from me at this point. The key changes have to be made in player development and scouting.” I agree Bob. We have had very good… Read more »
