Out With A Whimper

Wouldn’t you know it, the Rockies second-ranked prospect Eddie Butler woke up with a sore back Sunday morning after his lukewarm start on Saturday.  What a fitting way to end the season, another player injured while playing for nothing.

As far as the actual last game of the season, the Rockies lost 10-5.  It would have been 10-2, but one of the very few bright spots in this season: Rafael Ynoa hit a bases clearing double in the top of the 7th to take the score to 9-4.  Rosario’s solo shot in the top of the 8th was the last run the Rockies would put on the board in 2014.

Boy, the end couldn’t have come any sooner.

The most difficult part of the game was having to sit through Drew Goodman’s interview of Bill Geivett.  Having to hear Goodman pander to Geivett, almost like he was honored to just be in the same booth with him, and listening to the softball questions was beyond painful.  The replies from Geivett sounded more than scripted and the smugness of his tone really set ones teeth on edge.

WHERE IS THE ANGER IN THIS SYSTEM???

Why in the world do we have to sit and listen to the Root crew call these games like they are calling the 24th game of the season, not a single outrage in their tone or questioning of a club that has clearly lost its way long before #162?

Where is the anger from the players?  Where is the sense of frustration?

WHY IS IT THAT THE ONLY CALL FOR CHANGE IS COMING FROM THE FANS???

If the sense of anger, frustration and urgency came from the front office, then it wouldn’t have to fall on the fans to express it!

Why is it that this club can lose 98 games two seasons ago and then follow it up going last in the NL West the next year and then finish 2014 losing 96 and NOBODY FROM THIS TEAM IS STANDING UP ON TV OR IN THE NEWS AND SHOWING THAT THEY ARE ANGRY???

NINTY SIX LOSSES!!!!

Do they not understand that that is the SECOND WORST RECORD IN ROCKIES HISTORY!!!

WHERE IS THE ANGER?  WHERE IS THE FRUSTRATION FROM THIS CLUB????

WHERE???

The DP Sunday had unnamed players voicing similar sentiments to Saunders in his season ending wrapup.I remember when I used to type my fingers bloody on ITR and later here, but now I’m content to being the Rocky Mt.version of a Cubs fan-whom now have a brighter future then we do.I too thought Geivett was smug, and answered like a politician slinging the party line.

Thanks for caring, Jared, because management certainly doesn’t. Second worst record in Rockies history? Hey, that’s cause for celebration; there for a while we thought we’d make to that magical 100 loss season. My anger left town a couple years ago when I realized all the talk about boycotting the Rox was spot on. I guess there’s a limit to how much purple Kool-Aid one can drink before they become immune. Even the players can’t drink anymore of it, thus… Read more »

How in the world did the Rox win 66 games this season??

Because you win 54 games no matter how bad you play, lose 54 no matter how good you play, and the other 54 are the toss-up. In our case, we won 12 of the 54.

I was sure glad I was frolicking in Hawaii while the Rox finished the season on the road with just one win (?) and hardly any runs scored. Dr. C summed up well the tenure of O’Dowd; he has readjusted the template every few years and now the talent is starting to bubble up (David Dahl, Forrest Wall, Butler, Gray, Freeland, Tyler Anderson, Tapia, etc). O’Dowd is not the problem; I think the whole mess of the last three seasons… Read more »

Most of the Root crew are off on their own reality. They do realize who butters their bread, but their level of integrity, especially from Drew is highly suspect. It would appear that two of the broadcast crew have been here way too long. Most of us agree that DOD needs to find work in Atlanta or Seattle or where ever. After listening somewhat to Geveitt, which truly hurt my teeth, it truly pointed out to me how bad things… Read more »

If I’m not mistaken, the Rocks have final say on the TV and radio crews. Meaning they can say to kick someone off the broadcast. So, yes, they will suck up to the Rockies brass. Can you blame them? Everyone likes to have a job.

Especially if your overall rankings are 29th out of 30 teams.

I just noticed this: Jose Altuve, all 5’6″ of him, was going to benched the last weekend to preserve his lead for the AL batting championship. He put up a fight, and the Astros gave in and played him — he went 2 for 4 on Sunday and won the title anyway: “In the clubhouse afterward, the Astros toasted Altuve with champagne poured into plastic cups. He posed for pictures with several teammates and autographed bats for them. “I think… Read more »

Give Morneau his due. He had a really nice season (even at altitude) after a number of years of being told he was washed up because of concussions and other injuries. While management might celebrate the Rooftop, I am pleased that there is some kind of champion on the diamond in this town. Even Jeter sat out for the most part on the final weekend. No, I am not comparing Justin to Jeter. Good for Morneau. Props to him.

Where is my anger? At some point, you just have to say bleep it. The season is over. As Gerald Ford said (paraphrased) our long Mile High nightmare is over. Drew Goodman has done a lot of great work in a number of sports on a number of occasions. But I never understood why he got the play by play job and I’m sick of him by June. I’d much rather see Schemmel in the role. I actually like Frazier.… Read more »

Iggy, I’m not picking on Morneau specifically, although I guess I made it sound like that. I’m thinking of a losing attitude in general that we’ve seen take hold the last few seasons every August-September. Remember last year when management, in September, with expanded rosters, was so cheap they wouldn’t call up some minor leaguers to field a complete roster in September? That’s why we had pitchers hitting and then not even coming out to start the next inning. Embarrassing.… Read more »
