TOOTBLAN’ed

Charlie Blackmon set the tone the wrong way tonight in a 2-0 loss.  He led off the game against Adam Wainwright with a triple.  Trevor Story, the next batter, hit a hard grounder right at the third baseman.  For whatever reason, Blackman ran home and was out by 10 feet.  That TOOTBLAN suddenly flipped the switch in Wainwright’s confidence and swagger.

Wainwright and his bullpen friends went on to shut out the Rockies 2-0.  One big stat was Colorado going 0 for 10 in RISP situations.  Chris Rusin gave Walt Weiss a quality start going six innings giving up two runs on Matt Holliday’s two-run double.  St. Louis has been unbeaten since 2015 when leading after eight innings.

Colorado drops to 1-1 on the current nine-game road trip.  Jon Gray, who flipped the switch a couple of games ago, goes in the rubber game tomorrow night.  In the meantime, Miguel Castro was activated and optioned to Albuquerque.  Jason Motte is on rehab assignment and he might be ready to join the big club within a week or so.

This is way, way pre-mature, but the impending Gray vs. Wacha matchup has the feel of a couple of true “aces” opposing… Read more »
